A Message from Eilidh’s Mum, Dad & Big Brother & Little Sisters

Eilidh is the second child in her family — a precious daughter, a beloved little sister, and an adored big sister. She came into the world after a textbook pregnancy and a calm, beautiful natural delivery, weighing 7lb 11.5oz, with dark hair and perfect features.

At just six minutes old, while lying on her mummy’s chest, Eilidh’s breathing began to falter. Her colour changed, her cries grew weaker, and she was suddenly in respiratory distress. A NICU crash team worked tirelessly for five hours, but her little body could not recover.

Eight months later, her parents learned she had suffered from Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN) — a rare and dangerous complication where a newborn’s lungs cannot adapt to life outside the womb. There was no explanation for why it happened or why treatment didn’t work in her case.

Eilidh spent four days in the bereavement suite at Wishaw Maternity. Her mummy, who is a funeral director herself, had to arrange her baby’s funeral — a deeply complex and painful reality. Life has never been the same.

Her colour is pink 💖 and her symbol is the ladybird 🐞 — a sign of her beauty, gentleness, and the love that will always surround her.

The Fragrance
Eilidh’s scent is inspired by the lavender wax her family warmed in a Tinkerbell warmer — bought during pregnancy to use as a nightlight in her bedroom. The night she came home in her coffin, ahead of her funeral, her family melted the lavender fragrance in that warmer. It’s a scent that holds the memory of having all her loved ones under one roof, just once.

“I’m always here, Mum. I never left. I am all around you, and I am in our home.”
